We haven't lived in Oregon all that long and having a guide that will shorten our search is very helpful. Gem Trails is very accurate with easy to follow maps and many colorful pictures that help to enhance the experience. We checked out areas that are close to our residence and we were not disspointed. We are anxious to explore further.

Our #1 for Oregon Collecting (and fun to read too!)

We've used GToO for years now and are very happy with this new edition. Index & TOC are well written so the book's easy to use. Five appendices have detailed extra info, web links to some outstanding websites, and clear-to-the-layperson detail on the legalities of what can and cannot be collected which I highly recommend for novice collectors.
As someone mentioned, directions can be a bit vague but don't let that stop you - we've always found the sites. In previous editions there was some headscratching and backtracking to find the sites, but author Romaine has added GPS coordinates & better maps, making it much easier.
We don't leave on a collecting trip without this in our gear.

Matthew Janda has had an interest in card games his entire life, and began playing poker with friends in high school before playing online cash games in college. While originally studying business economics at UCLA, a game theory course sparked his interest in poker theory and optimal play.

Currently, Matthew continues to make poker training videos for CardRunners and all of his videos are theory based and designed to teach players the math necessary for improving their play without going into unnecessary or impractical details. He s never been one to discuss what line is best with a specific hand, but rather uses computer programs to display what action he thinks is best with each hand in his entire range.

Matthew is applying for medical school in 2013 and hopes to be a physician one day. He s currently finishing up his required science classes and volunteering, but poker remains his favorite hobby.

The REAL Poker Blueprint

For anyone who gave this review less than 4 stars, they either did not fully obtain and consume what they were reading, by just normally reading through it, or they didn't apply the material to their game through homework. This book is understandable on a read through, but you will not learn the information. The underlying groundwork, the frame for poker is mathematics. In its first quarter, this book takes you from the ground up in laymen terms with examples, on how to build a range for every position, and lets you understand why your'e doing so to avoid playing exploitative. You will need to read slowly, and take each page as you would a text book, slowly building your notes that you take from this book and applying them to your game, either through computer programs or memorization. Equilab from pokerstrategy.com is free and allows you to save custom built ranges. I would highly suggest using this in combination of note taking along with slow reading, and re-reading if necessary, to allow the information to sink in and concrete itself. The second half explains betting theory and again keeping from betting exploitative. This book is homework, bottom line. It's invaluable at understanding the game from the pros eyes in its rudimentary framework, and playing optimal theory poker.

Up your win rate with this

This book is mostly written for advanced players who are already very good at No-Limit Holdem. If you are either fairly new to the game and/or you are a losing player across the course of many sittings I would suggest instead you check out some of the Ed Miller books.

This book covers lots of important and useful concepts for how to structure your play in an optimal fashion against tough/experienced opponents both before the flop and post flop. I'm confident that it will help me be very successful at higher limits ($5-$10 and above) in the very near future.

P.S. I live in Las Vegas and play 5 days/week in casino poker rooms. I consistently win at $2/$5 NLHE.

Excellent book. Proof that the game is definitely evolving.

I've read over 20 books on poker over the years. I've been quite impressed with the quality of poker books recently, compared to several years ago.

This book would be in my top two favorite and most useful poker books, with the other one being Will Tipton's "Expert Heads Up No-Limit Holdem".

His discussion on how to reason balancing has been vital to me. Also, I've found a major leak in my game when playing out-of-position. I'm generally a very aggressive player and almost always prefer betting out monster hands instead of trapping, since it grows the pot. I think a common rookie mistake is to get too sneaky-trappy, resulting in smaller pots than monster hands deserve. In general, my choice of aggression vs. trappy has worked out to my advantage.

But he makes some very compelling arguments where trapping is clearly superior. My major leak is that my aggressive "play big hands big" results in my checks universally being weak. The out-of-position disadvantage clearly needs to be balanced by properly trapping in the right spots.

Also, he turns the calling decision of pot-odds on its head. He concludes that you should defend (i.e. call) 60% of bets on the flop (when heads-up). This should surprise most players, I think, since generally we only call if we hit, and fold if we miss. You only hit 33%, so how to call the other 27% successfully, especially dry flops? Well, it only works if your opponent is "properly aggressive", like GTO. Against straightforward players, 60% is clearly a loser. But if you fold more than 60%, then opponent's "bluff 3/4 pot always" strategy simply has +EV against you. So pot-odds thinking must be compared to "don't give bluff-always any +EV".

Starting with the triple-barrel value play (balanced with some triple barrel bluffs) as a backbone of his analysis, you can understand the game much deeper. This triple-barrel play is really central to deep-stack poker. Once you've worked this out, you can reason how to shallow your strategy as stacks get shorter (like 30 Big-Blind tourneys).

Simpson protocol is about taking and managing people in Esdaile

EFT has too muc of a role to play in something as important as healing people in Esdaile. It would have been nice if the space dedicated to it would have reflected that. Although, the manual itself, minus the EFT has very valuable information. Also When Gerry Kein places someone in Esdaile, he is able to communicate with them without using ideo motor signals so I believe both methods have value.

More dramatic than comedic...but wonderful.

"Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" is one of the greatest dramatic pieces ever written for the stage. The story revolves around Mona who is just returning to McCarthy, Texas, for the 20th anniversary of James Dean's death in a tragic car accident. She was a founding member of the Disciples of James Dean and they all agreed to "come back to the five and dime" for a reunion. Juanita, the owner of the five and dime is still around. Other members such as Sissy, Edna Louise, and Stella May come back as well. In wonderful flashback sequences that are played by younger actors we see how the relationships of Mona, Sissy, and Joe have deveoloped in time. We also learn of the traumatic lives that these character have undergone such as Sissy's bout with cancer, Mona's feeling that James Dean is the father of her child, and Joe's assaults by other boys in his town. At the end of Act I a visitor comes that no one can recognize...but she insists she is a member of the Disciples. This is such a wonderful piece that it was brought to the big screen with Cher playing the role of Sissy. I recently played Joe in a production of this show and saw many tears and just plain shock from what was happening. There are some funny moments but they come no where near the dramatic content of the this piece. A must for any dramatic theatre group.

In the Gap Between Past and Future

COME BACK TO THE 5 & DIME JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN opened on Broadway in 1982, was savaged by critics, and it closed after a short run. A later film production with the same cast was marginally more successful. But while both play and film will never be critical darlings, the show has proven a favorite in regional, university, and community theatre. It requires an elaborate but single unit set, significant lighting skill, and a cast of eight women and one man. It is performed in two acts.

Back in 1955 a group of Texas high school friends formed a James Dean fan club that exploded into melodrama: club leader Mona, who worked as an extra in the movie Giant, claimed that her son was fathered by James Dean. Now it is 1975, and she plans a reunion for the old gang at the fading five and dime in their tiny home town. Only a few show up—and the arrival of mysterious woman, who seems to know about their darkest secrets, jolts them into a series of unhappy revelations and realizations.

The script has a somewhat “Tennessee Williams” quality, but although the sense of poignancy is there, writer Ed Graczyk lacks Williams’ ability to make a highly artificial construct seem plausible, and the play will require a sharp director, cast, and designers to carry it off. Most productions I have seen have considerable difficulty in effectively staging the way in which the play’s action shifts between 1955 and 1975. All of this said, 5 & DIME is an unexpectedly strong script, enjoyable to read—and, if you can find it in a first rate production—entertaining to watch.

This is the actual play "Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" in book form. I love that! I'd have given Anything to have seen it performed live on Broadway in 1982 w/the same cast & directed by Robert Altman. Wow - what a show that must have been! Reading each character's lines along w/staging notes is fascinating. Having seen the film several times - I get to watch it all over again in my mind's eye. I've yet to lay hands on an affordable DVD copy...unfortunately, but am not giving up.

Great thoughts, weird at the end

This collection of Osho's wisdom, recorded from extemporaneous speeches rather than written all at once, offered many insights into the nature of negative and positive emotions. I definitely highlighted quite a few pearls like:
"Many people think that sentimentality is spirituality. But emotions are as mental as thoughts, and what you call your heart is as much in your head as your head. You can become emotional very easily. You can cry and weep with tears falling down, big pearl-like tears - but it is nothing spiritual."
"Sadness is passive anger and anger is active sadness."
"When you see anger in others, go and dig within yourself and you will find it there; when you see too much ego in others, just go inside and you will find ego sitting there. The inside functions like a projector; others become screens and you start seeing films on others which are really your own tapes."
"There is one and only one way to understand that to be angry is to be stupid: watch anger in all its phases, be alert to it so it does not catch you unawares; remain watchful, seeing every step of the anger. And you will be surprised: that as awareness about the ways of anger grows, the anger starts evaporating. And when the anger disappears, then there is a peace. Peace is not a positive achievement. When the hatred disappears, there is love. Love is not a positive achievement. When jealousy disappears, there is a deep friendliness towards all."

For me, the only thing that keeps this from being a five star book is the section at the end with "practical" suggestions on exercises for meditation, which are often pseudoscientific and almost all...well, weird.

The format wasn't perfect on the Kindle but the content was great.

Eye opener

What a delight, to read, it shocked me back to reality. I made use of so much detail in this book. Realized i was doing so many things wrong in my life and relationships. It is realy worth reading over and over again.

another great book

Osho books are kind of life savers for me. They uplift me, give me hope, strength and understanding for others. When I feel angry and frustrated I read his advices and keep being reminded that those are only the materialistic things and ppl who I should care about. It gives me more emotional freedom.
