Posture is critical to life. It's not just about standing up straight. This book educates you in a way that just makes sense. It's too easy. There's no excuse not to follow this and make your body work for you.

Excellent guide for staying young as you grow older!

I'm a chiropractic physician and I recommend this book to all of my patients. Our posture and how we move has a profound impact on how we age. This book is filled with simple yet powerful exercises for improving health and posture. Just as importantly it will help anyone who reads it understand key concepts vital to staying youthful and healthy.

I'm certain that anyone who reads this book and does the exercises recommended in it will feel and look better in a very short while. This is one of the best "healthy living" books, I've come across in a long while!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

How is it possible for three people to be in love with each other? The story of Greer Galloway, President Maxen Colchester and Vice President Embry Moore is one for the books...literally.

I am absolutely blown away. Broken. Shattered. Destroyed. Wrecked. And pieced back together. All by the genius filth created by Sierra Simone in American Queen, book 1 of its trilogy. This book sucks you in from the very beginning, hinting at what could either be a love triangle or a full on menage, but it is so much more. American Queen is a love story like none other. So full of power and emotion and love and hurt and filth, oh so much delicious filth.

I haven't seen dominance like President Maxen Ash Colchester's in a very long time. The way he commands the body and soul of Greer Galloway from the moment he meets her just reels you in, but with a 10 year age difference and her being underage, theirs is an impossible relationship from the beginning. She is warned away from the very beginning, warned not to give her kisses away, that they would hurt those around her. So for 5 years she pines away for Maxen, until she finds out that someone else has gained his affections. Embry Moore then catches her eye, but although she's been saving herself, something about him steals her breath, along with her reserve.

This story of second chances and long-repressed feelings took me through a myriad of emotions. I laughed, I cried, and I felt moments of shock, awe and even felt myself blushing (or better yet, wishing I was Greer myself). American Queen is so well written that if I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. So many applause and kudos to Sierra Simone for the amount of depravity that also envelopes a love so deep and raw and unbridled that I could not put it down once I started.

Unbelievable how good this is!!

The drama, the storyline, the characters, the sex...everything was perfect!
I didn't read the book description before diving in, other than knowing it was a take on King Arthur and the tale of Camelot. Nothing prepared me for the reality of this book.
I absolutely loved the way Sierra wove the history of Ash, Greer and Embry together. I loved the raw, graphic feel of the scenes, both past and present. So much detail, but so easy to follow.
I didn't want this book to end, and look forward to reading American Prince!

Evan Osnos is a staff writer at The New Yorker, where he served as the China correspondent from 2008 to 2013. A rare balance

China books seem especially tricky to write, because the writer has to please two very different types of American reader: the one who has a great deal of experience with China, and the one who does not. The first reader cringes if he has to read yet another description of how Shenzhen used to be a fishing village; but the second reader can't really understand Shenzhen unless you explain this fact. (As a strange hybrid of these two readers -- I lived in China but have no deep expertise in its history -- I often experience the worst of both worlds.)

This book strikes a rare balance. It's a very absorbing read, and its multiple story-lines are impressively woven together, without any of the stitches showing. The people Osnos writes about run the gamut from a public figure like Lin Yifu (the World Bank economist who defected to mainland China from Taiwan in 1979) to an obscure figure like Michael Zhang, a young energetic optimist whom Osnos first meets at a Crazy English conference and then follows for a few years. (Zhang turns into one of the most interesting characters in the book.)

Osnos tells all these individual stories against the backdrop of most of the major events in China of the last five years: the violence in Xinjiang, the Liu Xiaobo fiasco, the "Jasmine" events of 2011, Ai Weiwei's ordeal, the flight of Chen Guangcheng, the Bo Xilai scandal, the bullet train crash, and so on. You learn a great deal about all these events, but the book is anchored in its very humane profiles of individual Chinese who are trying to make their lives better.

a book for Americans

I am a Chinese in the USA. An American friend recommended this Age of Ambition to me, saying it's amazing. But I found myself almost gave up when I read the first chapter on the Taiwan defector Lin Zhengyi. This is a story you can find on wikipedia, and lots of Chinese are very familiar with Lin Zhengyi too. I guess Americans will find it interesting, never mind. I decided to read on since I liked the writing style. The people and their stories in this book are nothing new to me. Even Ai Weiwei's part, I would just go to watch the movie Never Say Sorry again. The more I read, the more I think something is missing. Seems Mr. Even Osnos is keen on predicting the future of China. But the characters in his book are not representing the whole picture. I am not saying Hu Shuli, Lin Zhengyi or Han Han are passé, just the grass-root young strivers in the book are not those who are more likely to take over the throne. China is a elite society, even if you don't like the children of the officials, of the rich business men's, the truth is they are educated(some overseas) and have resources. They are more likely to govern the country in the future. I don't know why there is no voice from this group. If you are talking about ambitions, without input from that group, the picture of new China the author draws is just not completed. But again, for those who don't live in China, or never experience the culture, it's a good read.

A great look at sociological shifts in modern China

If you've been following Osnos's New Yorker pieces, you know he has a gift for finding seemingly eccentric anecdotes and using them to explain a larger point. In this new book, he takes that a step further and illustrates the overwhelming social change that has taken place in China over the past fifty years through the experiences of individuals that have lived through it. It's a wonderfully readable blend of idiosyncratic stories and insightful analysis that brings any reader, whether new to the topic or an experienced China watcher, a greater understanding of this emerging force in world events.

While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints.
